La cucaracha, la cucaracha! Egads. One of the most disgusting creatures extant. But you have to hand it to them - they've been around basically unchanged for more than 300 million years. Fossil cockroaches have been recorded in deposits dated to as far back as the Upper Carboniferous, about 305 million years ago. There are 3500-4000 known species worldwide, of which only a few are troublesome to people. Here are pictures of a few of them.
